Veins that become excessively swollen in the rectum are known as hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids can be very uncomfortable but they are generally not a serious problem until they become severe hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoid Types

There are two types of hemorrhoids, those that occur internally and those that occur externally. At times they can both occur at the same time and both can bleed from time to time. Hemorrhoids are categorized into 4 different degrees of severity. 4th degree hemorrhoids are the most severe while 1st degree hemorrhoids are the least serious.

Hemorrhoids that are classed as 1st degree are always inside the anal canal, they never protrude. 2nd degree hemorrhoids however can protrude, most likely during bowel movement, but they always return to the anal canal without assistance afterwards. 3rd degree hemorrhoids require manual insertion once they protrude. 4th degree hemorrhoids can no longer be inserted.
