The Chevy Lumina was a successful and popular range of cars sold by the American Company, General Motors. It was both the sedan and a minivan and it was produced from 1990 up until 2001 when production finally ceased in the United States. Over its lifetime, it went through various redesigns and prove to be a popular and successful vehicle.
Originally, the cars were built in a single plant which was set in Ontario of Canada. The car had a fairly unique design, being known as being one of the longest cars of the W-body type. In 1997, the product line had started to be phased out, slowly being replaced with a Chevrolet Venture.
1990 saw the introduction of the first range of cars in the product line. These were mid-sized cars similar in style and design to the Pontiac Grand Prix. They prove to be a success and were generally well received by customers and organisations alike.
The next generation began in 1995 and a whole new range of models was introduced. This second generation for the Lumina saw various redesigned, resurrecting and all not to talk version which was originally want sold as the Lumina coupe.
The car also became popular be sold to law enforcement agencies and taxi companies. This was partly because of its reliability and reasonable performance, and it became very popular, as did many cars from General Motors, for all sorts of government agencies and other major organisations.
The cars were very reliable and generally well received by various organisations and individuals. They went through quite a lot of changes and upgrades over the lifespan, and certain aspects of the design have lived on to be present in newer models which replaced the product range.
The four wheel drive was also bought into the market, which replaced the original Lumina back in 2000. Nonetheless, the original cars were sold exclusively to rental fleets for a considerable period of time afterwards. Finally, production finally came to an end back in 1999 in Canada.
Two years afterwards, the production also came to an end to the United States but continued in various countries in Asia and Latin America where it was also sold under a different name. The car had a considerably successful and popular history in the Middle East and South Africa as well and various aspects of the car have been used in designs right up until the present.
