As the 1920s began, the Indian Scout became available for sale. This model then grew to become very famous for winning speed races. Even among the list of Indian line of extremely popular motorcycles, the 1928 101 Scout was the best.

The Chief, the Big Chief, the Four, and the Prince all started during the 1920s. The decade laid the foundation for Indian becoming America’s most famous motorcycle.

In the 1920s, Indian needed something new to replace its Powerplus engine, particularly with Harley Davidson putting out more advanced bikes. To that end, Indian charged Charles Franklin, a racer and an engineer, with coming up with new things. Not only were Harley Davidson bikes giving Indian some competition, cars were starting to be made in huge amounts also.

Franklin’s 1922 bike was based on a 1,000 cc (61 cubic inch) V-twin. It had a lower seat and a more enhanced shape than other Indian bikes, and the chain drive transmission was replaced with helical gears. Weighing in at 425 pounds, the new bike could go 90 miles per hour, unheard of at that time. This new bike was called the Chief.

On the other hand, Indian improved their motorcycle further in 1923. Even though the Chief was a great motorcycle, Indian increased the size of new motorcycle motors to be 1,200 cc or 74 cubic inches. Thus, Indian introduced the Big Chief in 1923.

The Big Chief was made to carry a sidecar, and several people used that combo for transportation, because cars were not yet dominating the individual transportation market. Although the 1923 Scout could be fitted with a sidecar, the Big Chief was better at handling the additional load.

Even so, according to a large number of individual motorcycle riders, the Big Chief’s 1,200cc engine was all they needed and it took a short time for the Big Chief to become the best selling Indian motorcycle in 1923. Other changes were to happen to Indian in 1923.

One of the main ones was that the company was renamed Indian Motorcycle Company (note the lack of an “r” in Motocycle). That year the PowerPlus was renamed “Standard” making it clear that the 1,200 cc engine in the Big Chief was the more powerful of the two engines.

It does not matter if Indian had the knowledge about it or not, the Big Chief motorbike they developed at the time was a classic. In our day, if you can find an Indian Big Chief motorbike manufactured in 1923, its selling price can exceed forty thousand dollars if it is in excellent condition.

The 1948 model Indian motorcycle was pivotal in re-establishing the brand after the second World War.

Safety of a motorcycle rider is very important and this should be kept in mind while selecting riding clothes. You will get an array of riding clothes now in material, style or weight. You will find Indian Motorcycle jackets in leather both safe and trendy.

Helmets will provide protections for your head but you must also pick protective gear for certain other parts of your body which is vulnerable. Places like knee, ankle, shoulders, knuckles have thin skin covering over the bone which if wounded takes long time to heal. Therefore you will need protective covering for these areas too.

You have to select your riding garment keeping certain situations in mind. For example you may crash with your bike and slide along the road. In times like this you will need proper clothing which will protect your body by staying in its place. A jacket which is secured with a belly strap and a cuff fastener will prevent the garment from sliding up the body.

Also consider road heat. If an article of clothing can only take a cool iron it will melt on a hot road surface, and if it’s next to your skin, it will melt into your flesh. Sure, a jacket can be a pain if you stay in a warm climate, but you’ve perhaps heard the saying “It’s better to sweat than to bleed.”

You might like to get an Indian Motorcycle jacket for yourself simply for its great fit and style apart from the riding needs. If you need one great looking jacket your first choice should be Indian with stone washed buffalo leather, quilted interior and stretch patches on the elbow for durability.

You will find Indian Motorcycle brand mark on all the hardware placed on the jacket like zip etc. the sleeves are zippered with zips on the cuff to give it a fit according to your choice. The two front pockets and chest pockets are zipped too with a pocket in the interior of the jacket.

You will find the jackets in rich dark brown color. The front of the jacket has a a little diagonal front zip which is two way to make it look smart with a stylish back having a diagonal quilted patch attached to it.

An Indian Motorcycle jacket will never go out of style, and should you stop riding, you’ll still want to wear this good looking, functional jacket. In some climates this jacket could take you all the way through winter.

There are certain considerations when you purchase riding clothing. The first significant thing to consider is its capacity to protect you. Next is the style and durability. When you buy an Indian motorcycle jacket you can find all three in large quantity in it and you can find it on the Zappos.com.

Indian motorbike jackets are not only cool but give protection against extreme weatherwhen out on the road.
